Close-up of the Olaus Magnus Map of Scandinavia, 1539, part of the James Ford Bell Library Historical Map Collection
(used by permission)
In December, 1963, the Associates of the James Ford Bell Library was incorporated, and this volunteer organization continues to play a major role in supporting the Library’s acquisition and outreach programs.
An independent charity, it is led by a board that is comprised of education, business, and civic leaders. The Associates have taken an active leadership role in assisting and supporting the James Ford Bell Trust as the Ricci map travels from Washington to Minneapolis.
Annual Lecture
Each year, the Associates, in cooperation with the Bell Library, sponsors an annual lecture by a scholar on a topic related to the Bell collection. The 49th Annual James Ford Bell Lecture will be given by James Dobreff, on Thursday, October 6, 2011.
